Easy tuna patties with crackers what could possibly top a delicious recipe? When something is so simple, like these tuna patties, you don't even need one. Greetings and welcome to its That Simple, a column where we walk you through the recipes and beverages we can prepare while closing our eyes.
One food that I conveniently forget about is crab cakes. Maybe because I live further inland than I would want to—somewhere you would never see them on a menu—this is the reason. More probable, though, is that if I were to prepare them at home, fresh crabmeat would be quite costly. Even if I could get by with canned crab, it's not very tasty. That left me with the little tubs that go for over $50 a pound in my local market's seafood area.
However, while visiting my in-laws in Florida a few months back, I had a crab cake that was so full of sweet flesh that I was craving it before I had even finished it. I was excited to recreate them when I got home, but the expense discouraged me once more, so I departed empty-handed. Rather, I went to something that was already piled high in my pantry. In only fifteen minutes, canned tuna can become a household name without breaking the bank. You might call them thrifty crab cakes or tuna cakes, but I think they're fantastic.
This Is The Best Easy Tuna Patties Recipe
This recipe yields enough fish cakes for two, but it's simple to double and makes great leftovers for the following day if you're eating by yourself. Both the preparation and cooking times are manageable for a weeknight, or if you'd want to plan ahead, you may preassemble the easy tuna patties with crackers (more on this below).
Naturally, you'll need tuna to begin. In actuality, I prefer Tonnino's jarred tuna to can. Use whatever you have, though; both are functional. Take two 5- to 7-ounce jars or cans of tuna; water-packed tuna is also OK, but olive-oil-packed tuna is considerably more delicious and moist. After draining, place the tuna fish in a big basin and use a fork to flake it.
Add a few generous spoonful’s of your preferred spreadable sauce. You may use Dijon mustard, mayonnaise, pesto, harissa, tahini, spicy sauce, or even plain yogurt. Next, add any seasonings you like, such as lemon zest, a small handful of chopped herbs (like fresh parsley or cilantro) or scallions, a spoonful of chopped olives or capers, a small amount of minced garlic or shallot, and a large pinch of any spice or spice blend, such as smoked paprika, garlic powder, red pepper flakes, or avatar. After giving the mixture a taste and adding salt and black pepper, set it aside.
Pour two big eggs into the bowl's empty area, beat them gently, and then stir in roughly 1/4 cup of bread crumbs. These dry, finely crushed breadcrumbs, panko, or fresh bread crumbs work well. Lacking them? Crush some pretzels, chips, or crackers finely. Blend until barely mixed. Check if a patty stays together. Add additional crumbs if not.
Separate the tuna mixture into four equal amounts, then form each into a patty that is 3.4 inches broad. Move to a material paper-lined plate or baking sheet. For a minimum of ten minutes, or up to a day, chill.
In a non-stick pan, heat a large sprinkle of neutral or olive oil over medium heat until shimmering. Fry the patties for 2-4 minutes on each side, or in batches if necessary, until they are crispy and deeply golden brown. Accompany the dish with a squeeze of lemon juice or a dollop of the chosen sauce. Store any extras in the fridge in a sealed shut compartment. There's no need to reheat them—they taste excellent cold or room temperature, over salads, spread into toasted buns, or nestled within split pitas.
Tasty and Crunchy Tuna Cakes
These tuna patties are wonderful served over crisp greens with a little lemon aioli drizzle. However, my spouse finds that making them into tuna burgers on a bun with guacamole tastes better because they are so adaptable in that way.
It's wonderful when a single dish can satisfy everyone. Additionally, you can tell you've got a true winner when it's quick and simple!

Albacore Tuna by Blue Harbour Fish
I recently received a container of Blue Harbour Albacore Tuna pouches, and my first idea was a recipe for tuna patties—I haven't cooked them in a very long time.
I quickly checked my pantry and found that I had everything I needed. This is what makes a basic tuna cake recipe like this so great—if you have a well-stocked pantry, you can almost always whip it together at the last minute.
I will definitely keep Blue Harbour stocked after sampling these tuna pouches. Blue Harbour is sourced from fisheries committed to sustainable fishing since it has earned certification from the Marine Stewardship Council.
Depending on the variation, each pouch contains hand-selected, sustainably fished wild albacore tuna that has been packaged in either water or water and sea salt (no preservatives!). It has a nice, subtle, and clean flavour.
Why do my tuna cakes crumble so easily?
Patties of tuna crumble when they have too much moisture. You want to make sure that the combination is sufficiently dry to hold together, so squeeze out as much liquid as you can from the canned tuna.
What is used to make easy tuna patties with crackers?
Similar to a burger, but prepared using canned tuna, are tuna patties. Apart from the tuna, they typically have egg, breadcrumbs, and spice for added taste and to keep them together. After that, the mixture is patted into a patty and deep-fried till it becomes a delectable golden brown.
